Meet Hashima — Hired through Nurture Hub Edmonton
Before: Despite seven years of experience, Hashima couldn't secure stable work due to "no Canadian experience." She worked two survival jobs and still struggled to support her family.
After Nurture: Through the GROW Space, she completed hands-on training in food production, digital tools, and customer service. Within eight weeks, she moved into paid transitional employment with the Nurture Empowerment Initiative, supporting packaging, labeling, and online orders.
Today: Hashima is now the back-of-house lead at the Nurture Café and is saving for her first apartment — a clear example of how Nurture creates real pathways to employment and stability for immigrant women.
Meet Abigail — From Invisible to Independent
Before: Abigail, a newcomer from Nigeria, applied to 122 jobs without receiving a single interview. She described feeling "invisible" in the labour market.
After Nurture: She entered the Nurture Empowerment Initiative™ to build experience in hospitality and retail operations. She supported product packaging, including the treats and the Mediterranean Lentil Soup Mix now sold at Nurture.
Today: Abigail is employed full-time with one of our restaurant corporate partners and now mentors other newcomer women entering the program — turning her own breakthrough into a pathway for others.
